China recently put into operation its first nuclear-powered industrial heating project in Zhejiang province.
China's first nuclear energy industrial heating project. On December 15, completed and put into operation at the Qinshan nuclear power plant in Haiyan district, Zhejiang province. Qinshan is China's largest nuclear power plant, consisting of seven reactors. According to China National Nuclear Corporation, the project can provide 24/7 heating for residential communities and industrial zones in Haiyan with an annual industrial heat supply of about 288,000 gigajoules. This will save about 10,000 tons of coal and reduce about 24,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions. The project uses excess energy from the Qinshan nuclear power plant, so it does not affect the power generation efficiency and the safety of the reactors.
